We are continuing our series of introducing you to individuals behind the scenes at Smartpress.com. This week we are featuring Prepress Agent Andrew Nepsund who joined the Smartpress team in February of this year. His credentials include a B.A. in graphic arts and design and two years of graphic design experience.
Andrew assists customers with their orders and prepares files for print. He works with customers directly to iron out any existing issues and gets proof approvals before sending the orders off to production. His education, design experience, and time on the job provide him with the knowledge to explain our processes for best results.
Originally from the Twin Cities, Andrew attended Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minnesota, where he earned his bachelor’s degree with a minor in fine art. His appreciation for graphic design and art coincide with what he likes best about his position.
“I love working with really nice artwork and good design,” he said. “That’s what feels good.” He added that he also enjoys when customers provide us with ample time to do our best work so we can meet our customers’ expectations.
According to Andrew, who married his wife, Brenda, nine months ago, he was seeking a more fulfilling position, and he says he found it at Smartpress. He appreciates the positive team atmosphere with great colleagues. “We have a great culture here.”
Before joining our Smartpress team, Andrew honed his graphic design skills at a Twin Cities-based bicycle shop. As it turns out, this was not by accident as he is a cycling enthusiast. When not solving problems with customer orders, Andrew spends much of his free time riding and racing.
According to Andrew, he does all kinds of riding whether it is to and from work or racing cyclocross – an activity in which he’s been involved for several years. Cyclocross is a type of bike racing that combines road racing with off-road in such conditions as grass, dirt, mud, sand, and obstacles. Andrew also participates in gravel races separate from cyclocross, both of which take place each fall.
After graduating from SMSU in 2013, Andrew worked as a barista for six months and is a self-described coffee snob. Though light-hearted about his description, Andrew uses his own French press at the workplace for his java and a pour-over at home.
